Japan's first whisky company was started by Shinjiro Torii in 1899 and to date, over 100 years later, Suntory are the leading producer of Japanese whisky, with Yamazaki and Hakushu malt distilleries and Chita grain distillery in. Smooth yet smoky, crisp and refreshing, it’s one that every whiskey connoisseur should have in their cabinet. Straight from the untouched forests, soft and crisp waters and mountains of the Southern Japanese Alps, it is no wonder that Hakushu is a "green and crisp" whisky. Hakushu East is the whisky-producing arm and was built in 1981 while the original building, Hakushu ‘West’, is now used for other purposes. Tasting the whisky was a really nice experience too, there was no sharpness or harshness to the taste, and it seemed like a very mellow Speyside to me. I'd never tried a Japanese whisky before, sticking strictly to aged single malt Scotch, but really wanted to give it a go, so when we saw this on sale we just grabbed it.Experience the art of whiskey tasting with our exclusive selection of rare and exceptional whiskies. The only way to serve and enjoy this belting dram is to sip it neat on the rocks or with a dash of water to allow its complexities to wow.

The flavour was softened by the exceptionally pure mountain water, filtered through old granite rocks. From Suntorys mountain forest distillery, nestled deep in Mt Kaikomagatake, Hakushu whisky is the fresh and gently smoky single malt whisky with herbal notes that is the revelation of Japanese Single Malts. The Hakushu Distillery was founded half a century after Yamazaki Keizo Saji inherited his father’s vision in his quest for innovation and constructed this second Suntory distillery in 1973. Kaikomagatake, Suntory Single Malt Whisky Hakushu® is the gently smoky single malt whisky with herbal notes that is the revelation of Japanese single malts. The Hakushu Distillery was built in 1979 by Shinjiro's son, Keizo Saji, who clearly inherited his father's pioneering spirit! It is a legal requirement that we declare the full value of the goods on all packages and shipments may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. This whiskey boasts a smooth and refined finish that lingers, leaving a satisfying warmth that resonates long after the last sip.Let our expert sommelier guide you through the rich flavours and captivating stories behind each pour. As if on a rainy day we were walking around on a carpet of moss in a dense pine forest, with ferns and heather with a running stream in the background where we suddenly found a fruit stall with yellow peaches, pears and honeydew melon. Hakushu produce a range of styles from its 16 stills from light to heavily peated malt but the house style evokes the crisp, green nature of the distilleries location. Both lightly-peated and heavily-peated malts were used for this complex and deeply enjoyable whisky from Suntory. This whisky is best served neat or on the rocks as it would be enjoyed in Japan For the innovators, try with a large sphere of crystal clear ice and experience the true Japanese way.
