A traditional EKG at a doctor’s office uses up to 12 small sensors called electrodes, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). These electrodes are attached to your chest, legs, and arms. With this EKG, you lie down on the exam table as the nurse or doctor runs the machine.
