Description

Silverdale. This area situated south of the Lake District national park receives much drier weather than the central Lakes area. Here there are some excellent limestone crags, particularly at Trowbarrow. Nestled amidst the majestic mountains and picturesque lakes of northwest England lies a bouldering paradise waiting to be discovered: the Lake District.

Some of the classics include Little Chamonix on Shepherds Crag, Corvus on Raven Crag, Eliminate A on Dow or Kipling Groove on Gimmer Crag. The area can be accessed by parking at Birk Bridge Car Park and continuing on foot across the bridge and on up the large bridleway. The first boulders start a mere 300m from the parking! DO NOT drive up the bridleway It’s worth noting that this is a popular face and care should be taken not to drop ropes on other climbers! The area is also perfect for more advanced climbers with routes reaching grades of f8B+, making it a perfect spot for a session with a large group of varying abilities.

Lakesbloc went a long way towards documenting the area's developments, but Lakes Bouldering does a whole lot more, achieving something a series of online topos never quite could. It's a guide you can keep delving into again and again, if only to spot the problems, areas and action shots you missed before. However, as well as being inspiring Lake District Bouldering is a functional guide that will get you from the parking to the problem. One thing is for sure: I'm going to be spending a lot more time in the Lakes over the next 12 months… Bouldering in the Lake District isn't just about the climbing—it's an immersive experience amidst some of the most stunning natural landscapes in the UK. As you navigate your way up the boulders, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of glistening lakes, rolling hills, and towering mountains. After a good workout, settle down at one of our wonderful holiday cottages in the Lake District. We've got everything from cosy cottages for romantic breaks to big family boltholes where everyone is invited. Bouldering In Lake District About BoulderingBouldering is the act of climbing, typically up to 20ft without ropes but with big soft matts beneath. As the height of the climb is not high enough to cause injuries (assuming you fall correctly of course), it’s a great way to get into the sport without having to get used to the technicalities of using ropes, belay devices and the other equipment associated with other types of climbing. To get involved with bouldering, look up your local climbing wall and ensure they mention they have bouldering on offer. Most climbing walls do offer bouldering nowadays. Also, you can find outdoor places to go bouldering. If you’re doing this as a beginner, make sure to organise an instructor who can ensure you’ve got the right equipment (including a bouldering mat to fall on), show you the best routes and techniques. Grange Village / Borrowdale The Bowder Stone, estimated at 2,000 tons, around 9m high, and 15m in diameter.

2. Grey Crag, Buttermere

Short, who said she had been in the hospital with her brother since the accident, continued: “It became apparent that the injuries were severe and he would not be able to survive. He was then moved to a private room and I was able to stay with him so that he could die with some dignity. The area is easily accessed from Coniston village which is about 20 minutes from Ambleside on the A593. Take the first turn right up the hill after the main road crosses the river in the centre of the village and follow this up the very steep fell road until the tarmac ends. Boasting the tallest indoor climbing wall in England, loads of routes, excellent bouldering, and additional indoor attractions, KendalWall in Kendal has plenty to draw you in. Family and child-friendly taster sessions require absolutely no experience, while accessible CrazyClimbs and a thrilling Sky Jump will really test your mettle! More experienced climbers can try roped climbing (with walls up to 25 metres), the dedicated Training Room, The Tool Box for dry tooling, or one of two bouldering rooms (new adult climbers can also enjoy these after watching an induction video). There are also opportunities to learn with friendly and helpful courses, drop-in sessions, and private tuition. The Bowderstone, situated in the Borrowdale Valley, is an iconic boulder that has become synonymous with Lake District bouldering. This massive 30-foot boulder sits in the heart of a picturesque woodland and offers a range of classic problems. The Bowderstone's impressive size and unique setting make it a popular and photogenic spot for climbers. The area is also perfect for more advanced climbers with routes reaching grades of f7C+, making it a perfect spot for a session with a large group of varying abilities.
