It’s a truly glorious thing to live inside the world of this book and to imagine it becoming reality, too. I was a little trepidatious going into this one because while I have really loved both of Casey's adult books, I haven't really been vibing with YA quite as much as I once did. The most impressive accomplishment in McQuiston’s first YA book is complicated Shara Wheeler herself.Chloe becomes so obsessed with getting to the truth that she ends up neglecting her other relationships; her best friends that have been there for her all throughout high school.

Smith being the biggest shock to me as I thought he was a jock or himbo at most, and he slowly moved his way into being one of my favorites on his road to discovery. I’m sure many of you have read the modern royalty masterpiece and are fully aware of McQuiston’s stunning prose. There’s a lot of discussion of this, particularly in reference to homophobia so please be aware of that before picking the book up.I say supporting cast, but each character is pivotal to the growth of not only the story but of each other. Because she and Shara have both spent every day of their high school careers dedicated to the singular goal of graduating valedictorian, and the only thing Chloe has ever wanted as much as that title is the satisfaction of knowing Shara Wheeler can’t have it.
