Both fresh and wise, Kay's poetry allows readers to join in on her journey of discovering herself and the world around her. and within less than 20 minutes I was completely captivated, awed and inspired, and Sarah Kay had herself a new lifelong fan.
Regardless, nothing can prepare you for the poems you haven't read yet, and there are quite a few of them. I couldn't fathom or relate to most of her poems which made it harder for me to like this collection of poems. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. She is an education advocate and keynote speaker for education organizations like NAIS, ECIS, AISA, and IBO, among others.Common experiences which we sometimes fail to take notice of just because we are clouded by the white noise around us. There are poems about so many different subjects here all carefully constructed and eloquently written. I'm sad to say I didn't really enjoy this poetry collection, specially since everyone who's read this seems to love it. She shows us at all times that she is willing to learn from experiences and to take life lessons away from it. Plus, for the first time in what seems like forever, Sarah Kay's words have inspired me to start writing again.
Both fresh and wise, Kay’s poetry allows readers to join her on the journey of discovering herself and the world around her.For some I imagine reading the poetry will not compare to watching her present, but I think that that is a limitation of the medium, more than a complaint about the book. It is like watching a really good film, and then reading the book and taking a slightly different experience away with it, like reading Lord of the Rings after watching the film, and still enjoying the book afterwards.
There are a number of differences between spoken-word poetry and written poetry (that I've picked up on anyways). It seems like these poets sometimes just put a bunch of random stuff together, punctuate it with spaces and almost dare, challenge you to finally yell "What is this?Well, it is an outstanding collection of poems which I do not want to give away too much of, but this collection will only make you wish there was a volume 2. So many irrelevant personal stories were shared by the author in this book that made it impossible for me to relate while reading.
