About this deal

While they may have sentimental value, bibles passed down through the family are not often worth a lot of money. I would have liked some more description of the Shade world and their customs because I was left with some questions about a lot of things but I did like that the story focused primarily on Allerick and Ophelia's blossoming romance.

My only complaint is that I wanted to better understand the councils and have a bit more background on that but maybe that will be explored in other books that have Hunters in them. I craved the monster to be a little more monster-y, and I wanted to know so much more about the history of these seemingly polar opposites. The only part I personally don't care for is the modern dialect of the heroine, but that is purely personal taste. Now she just needs to convince her surly monster husband, Allerick, that she’s the best fit for him. Ophelia is ostracized and ignored by her family and community at the age of 16 because of her wrong, unnatural attraction to the very monsters she was supposed to hunt and kill.

And although these two really needed to work on their communication skills, the author did it in such a way that I was simply amused, waiting for them to get their act together. I liked how the relationship between shades and hunters was flipped and explored but some quicker pacing would have been nice. Colette studied both History and Ancient History at university and loves including both historical facts and ancient mythology in her work. It was easy to read, our monsters here are your typical kind though distrustful type of fantastical race. There are some misunderstandings, and drama surrounding the peace treaty, but there’s also a sweet HFN ending that’s making me crave more of this series. Remember in Monsters Inc, when they powered their city by frightening children, but soon learned laughter created more power than screams?
