About this deal

Alex Box: I became a makeup artist by definition from others. My art work was on the face and body and up to the point when some one called it makeup it was art and after that point it became makeup, now it is seen as both. Definition is in the eye of the beholders.

Illamasqua has never, and will never, test on animals. We are proud that every single one of our products is 100% cruelty free right from the start of Illamasqua being born . T his is something that we are passionate abou t and only work with suppliers who uphold these principles. Another tip – ‘ establish whether any colour-correction is required to achieve your desired look. For example, if you struggle with Rosacea or areas of redness, rather than opting for Rose which may closely match your natural undertone, you may instead wish to select a Golden undertone to neutralise the redness and balance out the complexion.’ Hydra Veil – Primer for all skin types . This hydrating primer instantly smooth s skin and prolongs makeup wear. This is also a primer for dry skin thanks to its refreshing properties. Everyone who is an artist uses art to express who they are. I opened up about my sexuality over pride because I felt like it was the right moment and I know I have a lot of queer people that follow me, and I just thought it would be a fun way to do it….”

Pablo Rodriguez, our Director of Artistry sat down with makeup artist @ Pennold for chat about all thing’s makeup. I do my best to always revisit my creative roots when doing a make-up look, but to also test out and work on new techniques. I think it’s very important to be versatile as a make-up artist and being able to execute various styles of make-up whether it be bridal/night out/beauty make-up or drag/fashion/editorial make-up. I’ve always dipped my toes in various styles. Giving our Illamafia including makeup artists the freedom to create and express themselves with the tools they need to make a statement. From the champagne shimmers to the matte pine green in the Movement Palett e. E ach shade has a meaning , allow ing you to express your attitude and views. In true Illamasqua style , Electro Tartan symbolise d liveliness, vibrancy and originality . Taking over the London Fashion Week catwalk for Spring Summer 202 0 too, it was the perfect accessory to take from Winter to summer with the bold Artistry Palette shades. Illamasqua has never, and will never, test on animals. This being one of our brand pillars that we stand by with every launch. Mid way through the year we celebrated what makes Illamasqua , Illamasqua with our Movement Artistry Eyeshadow Palette. A lot of our existing products are vegan and we are making steps as a brand to try to make all our products vegan , even existing famous formulas without losing out on the high standard . The Movement Artistry Palette is 100% vegan-friendly and f ully accredited by PETA and the V egan S ociety.

David Horne, Illamasqua's Director of Product Development and School of Make-up and Art, said of the competition: "The Distinction in Makeup Artistry awards is a spotlight for talent to command attention and celebrate creativity and diversity of expression with make- up as the medium. Construction, deconstruction, symmetry and flamboyance all welcome visitors in this arena of explosive colour and style. Deviate and show us your difference". Now I feel because of our culture, young up and coming people are bombarded with where and who and how their peers are doing. It’s an enormous pressure knowing that not only hundreds of thousands of people in your country want to do the same job, but you’re connected to the 'world 'and they’re longing for the same things. The pressure they have 'made it' by the time you’re in your 20s is a ridiculous pressure. When I started, an older makeup artist told me it takes at least seven to eight years to get any where in the business and it is a stayers race, it’s tough and there are casualty's and so many people will drop away... she was right. Life has got so fast and immediate people expect success to come that instantly too... it's a much slower creature. If you can take all this on bored and still hold onto the saddle straps you have a better chance of succeeding.

Our professional expertise can be found in everything we do . Led by our Global Director of Artistry, Pablo Rodriguez, we want our makeup to inspire every one and give them the tools they need to keep creating . Katie Shillingford: People often speculate that Couture is a dying breed, what are your thoughts on the exclusive world? We took over London Fashion W eek for both seasons this year, taking the runway by storm. With September being slightly different due to the pandemic , Pablo still lead a team of artists to create 3 amazing looks. New products favoured both seasons, soon becoming both artists and press favourites. Beyond Foundation and Beyond Liquid Highlighter created glowing, metallic skin paired with bold eyes, elongated wings and perfect pouts.

Alex Box: On the spot, the dresses were arriving and leaving on the hour so it was fast and furious. I react directly with the narrative of the out fit, how it makes me feel, what it makes me see,how the girl moves in it . I think about what would complete and complement exaggerate and transform the character. I also feel no mater what you do you must never lose 'the girl' sometimes nothing is as important as something, it’s a balance. T o celebrate Illamasqua being 12 years old , we are going to recap the past year and what we have been up to, it has been a busy one ! We have had new collections, celebrated cult favourites and took over Fashion Week. So here goes… The Clinique brand was born in 1968 after an article in US Vogue that discussed whether a proper skincare regimen could really achieve great skin. Founded by Carol Phillips, editor of US Vogue; Evelyn Lauder, the daughter-in-law of Estée Lauder; and a qualified dermatologist, Norman Orentreich, Clinique was one of the earliest skincare brands to combine existing cosmetic science with traditional dermatology. Alex Box: I think I would be sad for couture to end because there needs to be extremes of quality and craft for people to understand what labourer and beautifully crafted pieces can look and feel like. In an age of transparency people want to know and see everything, then be moan the fact they are bored and there’s no mystery and magic left, exclusivity has never been more craved. The creation of Illamasqua was inspired by all things subcultural and for over a decade we are still pushing boundaries. We follow our own path and breaking free from the trends and standing by our values. We caught up with Illamasqua makeup artist @bernyferr to talk about his work and the topic of self-expression. Berny is no stranger to colour and elaborate transformations; his makeup skill and creativity is a constant source of inspiration and we think you will agree.
