About this deal

If the brand you buy is important to you, our best advice is to spend some time writing up your own list of ideal brands. That way when you come to the point where you’re comparing product options you can filter to only show the products from brands in your list.

This TV uses VA panel, offering wide viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. What connectivity options does Philips 50PUS8106/12 TV offer? This year’s model is the Philips PUS8506 (here in its 58-inch size), replacing the PUS8545 model from 2020. With improvements to the spec and design, the expectation is the PUS8506 pushes on in performance terms. But does it? Design The Philips 50PUS8507/12 50-Inch 4K LED TV comes with a range of audio features that ensure a high-quality sound experience. The TV has built-in speakers that deliver clear and crisp audio with good bass and mid-range performance. The DTS HD Premium Sound system further enhances the sound quality, which provides immersive 5.1 surround sound. The first is brand. Looking at the brand of the product is often a really good indicator for judging product quality. For example you’d expect a much higher quality product from a brand known for providing excellent quality than you would from an unknown or even a budget brand. In terms of settings, we opt for Dolby Vision Bright for a good balance of punch and realism. Even when watching at night, we preferred the added brightness from this setting that the Dolby Vision Dark profile can’t quite muster, to give a more convincing HDR impact. As a mid-range panel, its peak brightness is on the humble side, so a helping hand here to make the most of its capabilities is appreciated. The Philips 50PUS8106/12 is a 50" (inches) television that offers a captivating viewing experience with its impressive features. Let’s cut to the chase – the PUS8605 offers a great picture for the money. This is a midrange set, so it isn’t going to bother the likes of the OLEDs and flagship LCDs, nor is it aiming to. Its focus is creating an enjoyable picture that’s going to appeal to the majority of TV buyers. That means sharp outlines, punchy colours and good contrast are top of the bill, to create as striking a picture as possible for the price.

The Philips PUS8106 series specifications and features have just been unveiled and not in full. It seems identical to the PUS7906/PUS7956 series. The only difference we could find between the three is the color of the TV and the stand. The PUS8106 series has a Satin Chrome / Matte Chrome color. The PUS7906 series has an Anthracite Grey color. The PUS7956 series has a Light Silver color. The PUS8106 is represented by the following models: Of the 187 products, we discovered that 115 were more expensive and 71 were cheaper than Philips 50 Inch 50PUS8105 Smart 4K Ultra HD LED TV with HDR. Prices from Philips Connections are flanked around the rear with four HDMI – one is eARC for sending lossless audio out to an external speaker – with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) available on HDMI 1 and 2. Add two USB inputs (2.0 and 3.0), satellite and terrestrial tuners, Ethernet, headphone out, Common Interface Plus, and digital optical out and that’s your lot. Wireless connections include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. Sound is handled by two 10w downward firing speakers, which go loud enough, and there’s plenty of clarity to voices too. Bass is on the soft side though, and it doesn’t have the detail or dynamics to hold its own next to a soundbar. Dolby Atmos sound is built in but you won’t really hear its benefits from the built in speakers. If you can, an upgrade to a soundbar will be well worth it.Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits)

The Philips 50PUS8507/12 50-Inch 4K LED TV is equipped with advanced technology designed to enhance the viewing experience. One of the key technologies is 4K Ultra HD resolution, which offers four times the resolution of Full HD. This means you can enjoy incredibly sharp and detailed images, even when sitting close to the screen. In 4K HDR (of which, this TV supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, as well as HDR10 and HLG), colours are beautifully handled, detail retrieval is admirable and outlines are crisp and sharp. Contrast is great too, though when watching HDR content there is some loss of shadow and highlight detail as the set looks to get as dark and bright as possible. The Philips 50PUS8106 is equipped with multiple HDMI inputs, allowing users to connect multiple devices such as gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, and soundbars. It also has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling easy access to popular streaming services and the ability to pair with compatible devices wirelessly. The Philips 50PUS8507/12 50-Inch 4K LED TV has a range of features that make it an excellent choice for casual viewers and serious movie enthusiasts. One of the key features is the built-in Ambilight technology, which creates an immersive viewing experience by projecting light onto the wall behind the TV. This helps to reduce eye strain and makes the viewing experience more relaxing and enjoyable. Elevate your entertainment with the philips>Philips 50PUS8106 50’’ 4K LED Ambilight TV. With a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, giving you an incredibly sharp and lifelike viewing experience. With magical Ambilight this TV creates a stunning halo of light around the screen, making your home viewing experience even more immersive. It is equipped with a powerful Quad Core processor, which ensures smooth and fast performance.Unlike some mid-range competitors, the central stand here is made from metal with a brushed matte finish. It swivels 15 degrees on either side to allow you to adjust your viewing angles with ease, which helps with placement. The fact that the stand is located in the centre also makes it easy to accommodate on smaller TV units (though it’s worth noting that the 70-inch and 75-inch models are pictured with a two-feet stand, which will require something larger). The stand offers some swivelling action – 15 degrees in either direction and dotted around the rear panel is an array of Ambilight LEDs in its three-sided form (top and sides). When turned on, they offer an experience unique to Philips’ TVs. Just before we get into the detail of analysing the price of this product, we want to briefly highlight the importance of setting yourself a budget before you spend too much time shopping around for a suitable product. It’s all too often that we get carried away when shopping and find ourselves buying a fantastic product, but probably actually overdelivers on what we need and therefore costs a lot more than we should have spent. So spend a bit of time looking around at the sort of price you can expect to pay for products in the Televisions category and use that alongside your own financial situation to set yourself a budget.

As per usual, Philips’ out of box settings need tweaking but not as much as the PUS8545 required. The slight frustration is that, despite the various picture modes this Philips offers, there’s no one mode that you can hang your hat on and use across most content. While pricier Philips sets have enjoyed an audio partnership with Bowers & Wilkins, that isn’t the case here, and there are just two downward firing 10W drivers to handle the TV’s sound.

The PUS8506 has a game mode, and it’s an improvement with 10.6ms at 1080p and 10.7ms at 4K – twice as fast as last year’s PUS8545. Smart TVs of all sizes will transform your viewing experience, but what size is right for you will depend on your living space. A 50-inch TV ( wall-mounted or not) will look best from a distance of around 2.5 – 3.5 metres. Any closer and you risk the image looking pixelated, further away and you’ll miss the details. Don’t worry if this means you have to consider a more compact 32-inch TV or larger 65-inch screen option – we’ve rounded up the best of those for you elsewhere. The Philips 50PUS8507/12 50-Inch 4K LED TV is an excellent choice for gamers, thanks to its fast 60Hz refresh rate and low input lag. This means games feel responsive and smooth, with minimal lag or stuttering. The TV also supports AMD FreeSync technology, which helps to reduce screen tearing and stuttering. Viewing Angle You’re going to need to tweak this Philips TV to get the best from it, and those settings menus go on… and on…
