About this deal

Can You Catch a Mermaid? -At the beginning the story questions the reader asking them if they have seen a mermaid. Before the story begins it tells the reader about what is going to happen in the book. The story itself could be told as a tale. The story is about a little girl, named Eliza, who is scared of playing with other children and hopes her father will fish her a mermaid. One day Eliza meets a mermaid, named Freya, who has lost her mirror that allows her to return to the ocean. I would use the book with a KS1 class who enjoy fantasy stories. We could use hot-seating or a conscience alley to investigate how Eliza might feel when she hides the mirror from Freya because she wants her to stay. This would start a discussion about friendship issues, the feeling of loneliness because Eliza only has her father and keeping secrets from others.

She smiled, balancing herself on the side of the boat as she stepped into it. “I’ll try my best, doll.” Available from 5pm to 12:30am. Upon entering, a mermaid will appear and begin singing to the player, accompanied by a cutscene. The performance lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes. The player may leave the boat anytime, but leaving will restart the show.A sombre silence settled over them. Mark had never been told much about how his parents met. But Mark shrugged it off, slipping his hand into his mother’s and squeezing her fingers. In the story there are lots of themes of friendship and love, so the reader would need to bring these experiences to understand the powerful message of the relationship between the two girls, Eliza and her father tom and Freya and her mother. The book is full of seaside pictures, so the reader could bring their experiences of the beach to the story. The teacher could discuss with the children what they found on the beach and then link their experiences to the text. Shimmering lights may appear in the water, and the Copper Pan can be used on them to obtain ores, gems, etc.

The market starts at 5pm, and will be in port for the next three days. Please visit the beach after 5pm to join the festivities. There's free coffee!” Make an underwater display for your space. A lovely way to keep your space bright and beautiful, and to show off children's hard work. Children can make their own Split Pin Mermaids and colour and design their own Merfolk too to create a bustling scene. Mark’s father had told him all about the mermaids. About what they looked like and how they sounded. About how they could turn their tails to legs and come up to land, but only if they kept something special from their home beneath the waves. However, when fishing with an Iridium Rod with a Curiosity Lure, chances of catching some of the items increase. Specifically, the chances of catching a Blobfish, Spook Fish, Super Cucumber, or Pearl is increased with the lure. Consequently, the chances of catching the other items decrease. I didn't like how Eliza hid the mirror once she found it, as Freya really wanted to go home but couldn't. It was unfair on Freya as she was getting more ill the longer she searched for the mirror.Three fish, Midnight Squid, Spook Fish, and Blobfish, can only be caught in the Submarine, unless the player uses Magic Bait. Additionally, Seaweed, Sea Cucumber, Octopus, and Super Cucumber can be caught here, and there is a rare chance to catch a Pearl. Unlike other Festivals, villagers can be seen deviating from their normal schedules to walk to the beach to attend the Night Market. These villagers cannot be found outside the Night Market during the festival. The lists below show which villagers attend on which days each year. The words and pictures work together because the text links to the picture. For example, when the text talks about the terrible storm they illustrations show the effects of the storm; the swirling and crashing of the waves against the harbour. The texts talks about the seaside, the illustrations clearly show the reader what the text is describing. Villagers who are married to the player do not attend the Night Market, but instead follow their normal Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday marriage schedules. Since the game uses a unique beach map during festival days, items a player has placed on the beach ( Crab Pots, Chests, etc.) may disappear during the Night Market. These items should return on Winter 18.

The table below shows the chance of catching each item while fishing in the submarine normally or with a Curiosity Lure. His mother laid a hand over his. “No, Mark. A little selfish, maybe. But I know you’ll do the right thing.” Mark had never seen anyone like them. Their skin was bronzed, as if they were made of the sunlight only seen in the late afternoon. Their hair, still damp from the sea, was brown and green and gold, glistening in the light and glimmering. The clothes they wore were the colour of sea foam and had a fluidity to them that made Mark feel like they were woven from the waves themselves. The text fits well with the story with the words swirling around the whirlpool in the sea or shaped like sound waves when you hear the mermaid singing through the shell. The pictures and text feel like a process as there is a clear relationship between them. As a result, the book is enticing, you can find hidden things and try to predict what is going to happen next. It’s great for stimulating imagination and creativity.

The author uses italics to distinguish between the narrator and Freya’s speech, which is more rhythmic and song-like. Ray also plays with the position of the text to connect it with the pictures. For example, it is swirled in a circle over a picture of a spiralling wave. Looking for some extra engaging mermaid activities for early years? My mother will be worried about me.” He said, looking small as he hunched up, knees pulled into his chest.Really enjoyable book about a lonely girl who longs to meet a mermaid. One day she spots another girl like her sitting by herself on the beach and is drawn to her. The girls care for each other and search to find mermaid Freya’s lost mirror, as without it she cannot return to the sea. The text does provide a good model for writing as it is an unusual tale filled with variety of texts such as speech and clear punctuation; full stops, speech marks, question marks. Therefore, when children write they can use the different types of t And so they spent that first day walking through the streets of the sleepy fishing town, Mark pointing out who lived where, showing him the school he went to and where he and his friends spent their time. The text is full of descriptive language to convey the illustrations. The narrative is simple and interesting and therefore children may relate to the story. The text flows well and the text is set out with shapes representing themes in the book such as wave and a whirpool. Mark tugged off his shirt and stepped out of his shoes, slowly sinking into the water. “My father used to bring me here when I was younger. He said it was where he saw his first mermaid.”
